How would you do this effect? Its the strobe/trails type effect that starts at :50 sec. I have messed around with fcp strobe and trail effect and was not able to get the same results. Also how did they do the multiple colors? Thanks in advance http://youtube.com/watch?v=6uo2WLQ2LVA

You could try out some of the effects in the Time section of AE's effects, but it would be easier, and you would have more control to do this manually. Obviously you would need keyed or roto'd footage, but you could just duplicate your layer and offset it manually by hand or via an expression. Apply color effects individually to each layer and use different blending modes to get your desired results.
Most effects are a combo of ingenuity, manual labor, and maybe a touch of a plug-in here and there. Once you start thinking through these things rather than thinking about which plug-in to use, most of these types of questions answer themselves.
