Need Help With Editing HD

I have been having difficulties capturing and editing my HD footage. While capturing I am noticing that the rate will be at 46% behind the footage displayed on the LCD screen of the deck. When I bring the captured footage down into the timeline I notice that the footage will be increased in speed by roughly 10-15%.

My Specs:
G4 PowerBook
1.67 GHZ
2 Gig RaM
200 Gig External Hardrive (with 36 gigs remaining)

Final Cut Pro 5.0
Capturing with HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i 60

Using Canon HV20 Firewire as deck

Can this be due to lack of processing power, or lack of memory?

Thank You.

I have the same powerbook. Since I edit DVCPRO HD without problem, I would say that you're experiencing lack of power due to the compressed LONG GOP of the HDV signal. Some questions:

1- How much free space do you have on your system HDD? Have at least 20 to 30 gb free for better performance.

2- What type of external HDD are you using? Make sure it is firewire 800. And don't forget that the FW800 and FW400 are on the same bus, so when using both together, you're splitting the bandwith. I would suggest a PCMCIA card with extra firewire 800 ports, or firewire 400.

3- Don't have antivirus programs running, or anything else besides FCP for the matter. You need all processor power you can get.

If this doesn't work, than you'll have to look into a new computer...

When you capture using Apple Intermediate Codec, the machine has to transcode it on the fly, which is why you have the delay. Just bring it in native HDV.
