Need help with DVD and YouTube

I’ve volunteered my time to shoot and produce a promotional video for a local charity. The video was shot with the Panasonic DVX100A in 4:3, 60i. I need to produce the final video in both a DVD for display on televisions and computer monitors, and a version for posting on YouTube. I will be using Sony Vegas 8 and DVD Architect. I have several questions:

1. When capturing the video do the project settings make any difference? i.e., does it make any difference if I capture the video with the project properties set at 800 x600, 720 x 480, 360 x 240, etc.?

2. For the DVD should I use NTSC DV (720 x 480), or NTSC Standard (729 x 486) for the project properties? I was planning on rendering the video to an .avi file, and finally creating the actual DVD in DVD Architect. Is this the best way?

3. For YouTube, I am under the impression I should I use the setting of Multimedia 320 x 240 for the project properties? Is this correct? And in what format should I render it?

Thanks,

Dan

1) No. Capture is completely independent of the project.

2) NTSC DV.

You should render using the DVD Architect NTSC DVD template under MPEG-2, and then render the audio to AC-3 using the same file name.

3. I'd go full 640x480, using AVC/MP4.

Do not forget to deinterlace for the web, use "interpolate" in project settings, and render to 29.97p.
