Need help with a file conversion

Can someone tell me how I can import a .mpg file into FCP WITH the audio?
The clip plays the audio when I view it in quicktime, but trying to work with the clip in FCP only has the video.

Help please!

well, i dont use FCP, im a pc guy, but i assume you could demultiplex the video from the audio using a demultiplexer. Look on www.videohelp.com for one called "muxman" or tmpegnc mpeg tools.

Yah, the audio is muxed and you need to demux it. A handy, and free, program for this would be MPEG Stream Clip. Simply drag the MPEG file into square with blue circles, then go to File and Export options and you'll have acess to a solid set of choices for how you want to export. Good luck.

agreed, i would convert my timeline to targa sequences or HUFYUV codec. However, premiere does handle HDV mpegs flawlessly. I have a tutorial that explains how to do so. (it doesnt directly apply to this instance, but the same process it illustrates can be used)

It's probably NTSC, just convert it to NTSC. Using a higher res codec won't add anything to the image. It's already been compressed to hell for the DVD.
