Need help transfering into FCP with firewire

Hey,
So I just got a DVX100a and want to transfer the recorded material via firewire into Final Cut Pro HD. I turned the camera on and set it to VCR but when I open up Final Cut I get a message that says it cannot detect the camera. So my question: Is there a specific setting in on the camera that will be preventing it from being recognized? How do I transfer the video to the computer??
