Need Help To Make Workable Files

A client has asked me to use scenes from a movie in their music video. I've downloaded the movie which is about an hour and 20 minutes long. It came in a format .MP4 which Final Cut Pro does not recognize.

I only have about 20 gb of space on my computer and I cant export/encode huge files like that to an external because MPEG Streamclip always tells me write error or disk full. The original file itself is only 1.5 GB.

How can I encode or convert it so it's workable in Final Cut Pro without expanding the size up to something ridiculous like 20 to 30 gb?

All help is appreciated

I have a couple of programs that convert mp4 files into a format workable with FCP. I believe both have downloadable demos so you can test them out -- if I remember correctly they give you the option of converting to ProRes (which gives large files that work) or rewrapping as mov files at the same size (smaller files that may have some performance limitations but will work). Look at VoltaicHD from Shedworx & Clipwrap from Divergent Media. Sorry I can't be more specific but I used them once for a single project and they've sat waiting ever since -- job went fine, worked the charm though I would have converted to ProRes as a matter of course; YMMV.

Cheers,
GB

If you don't have enough disk space, then you simply don't have enough disk space. No software can magically create disk space. You need to clear some files from that drive, or buy a new one.
