Need help to choose the right backpack for my DVX

Hi,
I'm new to this forum and read some interesting articles about bags, cases and backpacks allready. Unfortunately they didn't help me to solve my problem...
I use a DVX100A with some (normal) accesoires (a few filters, additional batteries, external mic,...).
Now I'm looking for a backpack / rucksack that will hold all the stuff and that protects my equipment well. I think it would be best for the cam to be carried horizontally (most backpacks only offer the vertical option).
I also need a backpack that I can take with me on flights or travels.

After long research on the internet I found some interesting models from different brands, but unfortunately I have no chance to compare the backpacks personally (because I have no stores nearby (Munich/Germany) that sell the products).

The two models I have in mind right now are:

The KATA R-103 backpack (because of the relatively low price)

and the

PortaBrace BK-3EX (because I think it is a good brand and it allows to carry the cam horizontally) even if it costs more than twice as much as the KATA

If anyone uses one of the backpacks and could let me know his experiences with it, I'd really appreciate this.

Also if anyone knows other good backpacks that protect a DVX well and perhaps offer horizontal carrying, this information would be very helpful for me, too.

Thanks for your help and sorry for my bad english :-)

Best wishes,
Manfred

I have a Kata 103. I like backpacks better than shoulder bags because it's easier to shoot while wearing it. However the 103 is barely big enough for the DVX, and a couple batteries/tapes/misc. accessories. I don't think you'd also have room for an external mic in there. However it is airplane friendly, comfortable, built well, and cheap. If you want a case for run n gun shooting, this is a good choice. But if you're going to be in a more controlled environment, get a bigger case.

I have a Kata HB-207 and it rocks. I too looked around for a bit and am not disappointed. This bag is just the right size to fit in overhead airplane bins and I have fit 2 DVX's plus mics, 2 slrs and 4 lenses and a laptop! It distributes the weight very well so you wont get tired from lugging it around. If you're carrying quit a bit of equipment I highly recommend you look into it. You can also get a caddy for it, but I have never needed one and it would just be more weight to carry in the long run. Good luck finding your bag!

Thanks a lot for your answers so far. I've looked at the KATA 207 and it looks interesting, too. Thanks for this information.
Does anyone know or use the Porta Brace BK-3EX backpack? I used some Porta Brace bags in the past for my other gear and allways was impressed by their quality.Do you think the much higher price is ok, or is it only the name you are paying for...? I also have a KATA CCC-193 bag right now but it is a bit too large for me when using the DVX. I'd also like to get a backpack now, because I think it is much more comfortable when I have any field productions...
Please if anyone used the Porta Brace, let me know your experience.
Thanks.

I have the Domke Iguana 20, and I love it. Many unzip options, and velcro inserts make it very easy to customize. FIts the DVX well, and I can fit a shotgun mic, lav mic, tapes, 5 long life batteries, LCD shade, manual, BArry's DVX book, cables, chargers, and misc other stuff. Shoulder straps are comfortable, and the nice padded hip belt is removeable. It's great!

Would you please let me know which Porta Brace model you used? And does the Petrol backpack offer good protection (as the Kata R-103 if you know this model) and allows it to carry the cam horizontally?
Thanks.
