Need Help & Suggestions For 1st Documentary Videoshoot

Oh yeah, sorry, I almost forgot to mention that there will be another camera guy (independent from me) who will be taping the entire 3-day seminar contents (everything) & producing that into a series of seminar VCDs/DVDs. So that's why I just need to shoot sufficiently for just the documentary, which I hope I can limit to 30-45mins. Kinda like a summary/important highlights/turning points of the whole event. Sorry I didn't mention this earlier as only now it crossed my mind.

Hi all,

With regards to equipment, I bougth myself a standard monopod. I'm modifying it by adding a 1.5KG round donut weight at the base of the monopod leg to stabilize my shots even further (similar to how the SteadiCam system works). May post pictures later on it.

Thanks. No I was the editor. I spent some time at Discovery and BBC America. Spots are fun because you can get in and out in one to two days. Most of it I was the offline editor and they went to a post house to add special effects and music. offiline is fun because it is the creative side of post. I also added another clip on the site. It is the Mission: Moving Mountains piece.

Hi everyone,

Well, the date of the conference is drawing near. This Thursday already. I guess I'm more prepared for the shoot thanks to all your helpful comments.

I was wondering if there are any websites where I can download royalty-free videos of a giant 20 foot Tsunami wave crashing down on the ocean? Something I can freely incorporate in my documentary video.

I've also acquired the neccesary equiptment for the shoot including a 20 meter 3-pin XLR microphone cable & a uni-directional interview microphone plus a mic stand. I will place the microphone & stand at the lecturn where the speeches are made & hook the other end of the cable directly into the XLR connector of my DVX100A. I'll also use this set up for informal interviews.

I would check the web. The footage from the gov. can be had, but not in any quick time frame. I would look at istock or revostock and plan to pay a little for footage.

Have fun!
John
