Need Help Selecting Portable Field Recorder & Voice Over Microphone

I'm looking for a portable field recorder and microphone to record voice over's for our in-house training programs. This setup would be used inside a conference room that is relatively quiet. I did a test with my AF100 and a cheap radio shack microphone to test background noise which came out except-able for our application. We have been given a budget under 1000.00 any suggestions?

How about the Marantz PMD660 recorder and Rode NT1000 microphone? Would this setup need pre-amp or eq?

Thanks in advance for all suggestions.

Stay away from the PMD660. There are much better choices out there. The Tascam DR-100 and Zoom H4n are popular choices. The Fostex FR2LE would be my pick in the PMD660 price range.

As for mics, check out the Shure SM7B, the Rode Broadcaster, and the Electro Voice RE27N/D. You should also factor in the cost of a table stand, shock mount, and an Isolation Filter will make a big difference in sound-quality too (Primacoustic Voxgaurd is a cheaper one, the sE Electronics Project Studio Reflexion Filter will probably be better).

You might want to get a high-end dynamic, rather than a large-diaphragm condenser mike (unless you will also have a recorder with phantom power, or a mixer, interface, or phantom power supply equipped to power a microphone... OR, a battery-powered condenser).

Anyway, good voice-over dynamics: EV RE20, Shure SM7B, Shure 55SH (the "Elvis" mike), or if you want to spend a lot-lot, a Sennheiser 441.
