I am having some major issues with Vegas 7, I never had this problem before but Vegas is somewhat freezing half way through my render. I am getting a error message that is saying ( An error ocurred during the current operation. An exception has occured ) I am using to back up hard drives which stores the footage. Has anyone had this problem, and then sometimes i get a message that says an unexpected error has occured. Can anyone tell me what might be causing the render to stop, it will start and then stop somewhere around 57% but the time remaining numbers continue to countdown. The video is only 4 minutes in long. This is the first time i had this problem before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Ive had similar problems especially when rendering to mpeg related formats. It will always freeze on a particular time in the render denoting a calculation based error such as bitrate problems. Wrong render resolution (some formats need the render resolution to be exactly divisible by 16 etc). The best thing is to try and render to different formats and see if the error replicates itself. Also try rendering portions of the timeline to see if the problem lies in a portion of the source video. Ive had issues like this also. Some videos might have a corrupt frame in the orginal source etc. When the render gets to this portion its unable to assimilate the information abou the frame properly and hence results in an error. Maybe we can suggest a better solution if you tell us what format your rendering to and if you changed any of the render parameters inside the render panel.

I have tried rendering to AVI, MPEG, Quicktime, all of my source footage is quicktime clips for a music video, and it crashes at different points in the render, sometimes the error message comes up and then other times it just shuts vegas down completely. I have about $400 bucks waiting on the delivery of this video and am getting frustrated. I have never had any problems like this before.. This is the first time i am rendering all of my clips to quicktime files to put the video together, is it possible this is causing Vegas not to render the entire video?

I had a similar problem with a 10 minute film a year ago - although I didn't even get an error message, just a mysterious freeze at one particular point. My workaround was to render it in two halves (i.e. first 5 minutes, then second 5) then create a new dummy project just containing the two rendered outputs from the previous step - this worked fine (presumably because all the hard rendering work had been done during the previous step).

Some pointers:
1. If you are using many pictures, make sure they are resized to the project's size.
2. Remove third party plugins one at a time.
3. Remove the scene where the crash occurs and check what's special about this scene. E.g. transitions, third party plugins.

I've had similar problems with Vegas 7, most notably on a music video that had lots of cuts. I don't know if there is a limit in Vegas on the number of individual clips but I seem to run into this issue more on projects with large volume of clips. Other recommendations.

1.) reduce number of rendering threads to 1. Default is 4
2.) if using stills, use .png files whenever possible vs. jpg. Also check resolution and sizing on stills. I've had hangs on very high res photos.
3.) Increase RAM in your PC - 2G minimum

Art Varga> Vegas doesnt have a defined limit on the number of clips residing on the timeline.

Reg your point 1. What difference does this make. Just cause i have mine set to 3 threads and i dont have a clue as to what this represents.

Your point 3 ....Whats the use...Ive been told vegas wont use more than 2 gb. Youve said minimum 2gb. I think thats the maximum actually that vegas will use.

yeah - I didn't think there was a physical limit. I just notice the problem more with large number of clips, probably due to greater chance of having a corupt file. Not sure what the number of rendering threads does either. I just heard this recommendation from another user. Regarding RAM, what I've been told is that amounts greater than 2Gig are still beneficial because other programs (ie OS) are also competing for that 2Gig. 3G for example would give a full 1 Gig for the OS to use and preserve to rest for Vegas.

I was just going to post a new thread about a VERY similar problem I'm having, but will post here instead.

I've been trying to render out BERLIN, with the full score that was just turned in by Herman, so I can watch/critique in it's final stages. Just after getting the Title/VFX comp in from Neil, I was going through a render & had to cancel it part way through (around 4,000 frames into it).

Now, ever since then, anytime I try to do ANY kind of render on BEST (AVI, WMV, etc.), it freezes on 4,003 frames every single time. It LOOKS like it's still rendering with the elapsed render time still ticking away, but it's still stuck on frame #4,003.

Any ideas? Is there some kind of cache in Vegas I should clear or something?

Scratch my issue/concern, as I found a work around. I simply imported the project as a nested file into a new project ... rendering is now well past 7,000 frames and clicking. :)

Don't know why it was an issue in the first at that frame 4,003 even after I had saved it to a new file name, etc. Importing the whole thing into another project seems to do the trick, though.

Im on the same boat. Freezes halfway through. ... I will try the "saving under a new project name" and post my results.

thanks.

Saving under a new project didn't do it for me. It was opening a brand new project, and then IMPORTING the other .veg file into the new one & rendering from there.

i've been having exactly the same problem with Vegas 8 Pro. I'll have a project that stops in exactly the same place and nothing will fix it except deleting or shortening the clip where the problem seems to be. Re-naming the file and other solutions do not work.

First time it happened was when I tried to render a 5 minute piece in 32 bit. Switched to 8 bit ad that fixed it. Have rendered everything in 8 bit since then except for very short pieces.

I'll have to try importing the VEG file into a new project. Thanks for the tip!

Ducatimark, your case is different. When it crashes EXACTLY at the same place during rendering, then it's a buggy filter you used, or a buggy transition. I have had such crashes myself, and always it was the third party plugin's fault, not Vegas'. So, please let's keep this case simple.

I was having major problems this week with a 5-minute piece that included M2T and AVI video, and a lot of photos. The photos were all large high-res TIFs. The project was crashing with every render attempt.

After reading this thread, I resized each pic and saved as GIFs (which to my eyes looked a little better than PNGs). Problem solved. :)
