Need HELP on wedding film

I filmed a wedding yesterday using 3 cameras. Gh1,gh2 and gopro hero 3 (black) . I had the GH1 in the back (zoomed in) with a 14-44 kit lens, the gopro up front off to the corner to catch everything and the gh2 on monopod to get close ups and ring N such.

Well for what ever reason that clip on the gh2 got corrupt. It was the close up shots of the parents, bride and so on. So all I have now for footage are the gopro and gh1. Gh1 footage is okay and so is the gopro is decent too considering the low light. I did this wedding for free so I'm not bent out of shape over it but I wanted to give them Great video. Audio came out great and I have footage of people coming in and sitting

With what I have, how would you deliver the ceremony piece? Just have gh1 footage by it self? Mix the gopro and gh1? I was thinking of over laying there ceremony audio over the footage I took over the day and cut into gh1 footage and gopro thought the clip. Make see sense?

this was my first wedding and I think over all it came out great beside the one important part. I've tried to recover the file but it was no luck. I do IT for living so I know my way around.

any help would be much appreciated

Ask the bride and groom for pictures of them growing up and mix it in with the GH1 footage in a "Up to this moment"-eque piece that along with music really portrays how one close to them would experience the ceremony. I've seen that done before to cover up a lack of variation in footage.

Have you tried to salvage the corruption? I don't know much about that format, but I've seen some incredible feats of tech savviness done to save corrupt Red footage. What is the state of the bad media? Please tell me you have not reformatted the card yet. I don't want to give you false hope, but sometimes there is hope in getting that footage back.

The file is toast. It's on 22mb and should be much bigger.

As for pictures ... Hummmm... Not a bad idea!

Yes, cutaways to old photos of the happy couple, and also stills taken during the wedding (I'm guessing guests would be happy to contribute?) are good ideas.

And I agree the video and sound don't necessarily have to match, especially for montage sequences. You should be able to build an impressionistic version of the ceremony, containing all the important bits but much shorter than the actual full ceremony. Your audience doesn't want a documentary, they want the emotions.

I just pictured your ideas in my head and I like it. I wish the video was better from the gh1. It was so damn dark! I think it can be cleaned up though.

should I tell B&G on what happen?

How should ask for these pictures? Just come out and ask?

thank you guys for all your help! I'm very much appreciated :)

Don't say there was a disaster or anything, just explain that you have in mind a cool concept of mixing in photos of the ceremony and ask if they or their guests can provide some. Easy. :)

As for your corrupted card, could be worth running it through something like this (or your recovery programme of choice): http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec
I've used it with success in the past (Your 22Mb file might just be the only one visible, there could be more lurking...)

I have allll the video!i put the card in to fcpx and it only showed 2 videos that I could import. I then went into the card and found some files and tried to play them but they couldn't. I needed to go deeper (show package contents) I kept on digging and found the raw MTS file with all my footage!! Yesssssss! Phew!

Tha is for all the ideas. This is the first time fcpx had this issue. It's very odd.

Now my next issue is how do I import the mts file by it self into fcpx?

so have you been able to somehow view the MTS file and confirm it does contain the good quality footage you need? I can't help with making FCPX read it, but I'm sure someone in the FCPX forum will know.

But if it's not usable, I don't think it's unreasonable to approach the B&G and tell them the situation. At worst they'll want to cancel the whole video (better to know now than waste many hours of your time), at best they'll be able to help with providing other photos etc (again, they'd rather know now instead of getting an unpleasant surprise when they get the finished video) - not necessarily a disaster, it may result in a better-than-otherwise video.

Typically with corruptions, I've found as long as you rolled the camera, there is hope. I've been a DIT on pretty decent sized indie-features, (hundreds and hundreds of thousands of $$$) and you'd be surprised with what I've pulled out of corrupted data. Things that looked absolutely hopeless. Have yet to ever completely loose a single card of footage. Knock on wood.

Just have to have the right data recovery skillz! haha

The video is good!! I bought mts converter from the apple store ($9.99) and it worked fine. I changed mts to mpeg HQ and fcpx imported it fine.I got lucky! Real lucky!

i still asked for photos thought. It will be a nice touch.

Like others have said mix stuff in. I messed up my first wedding...used wrong setting on 2nd camera and footage ended up being over exposed. Just made in B&W and mixed in photos to go along with the main footage. Hopefully you can recover the corruption!
