Need help on high shutter Aikido indoor action

Hi,

we'll shoot some Aikido action scenes in a dojo this friday.
We need to light the 'fighters' only - enough to use higher shutter speeds (at least 1/100 and up to 1/800 if possible) and to get the background / surrounding become dark.

The problem I'm facing is that I can't afford renting HMI's, what I can afford is to rent 6-8 2KW Arri, but the cheap ones used for stage and event lighting (never used them and the guys from rental couldn't tell me what I wanted to know).

Does someone know if these will cause flickering with high shutter speeds? Will the amount roughly be enough to lighten 4-5 people on a space of about 5x5 meter (16x16 feet)?

Shots will be mainly from the front/one side. fast primes.

Any help appreciated!

question is can you "afford" to power 8x 2k light... Honestly one 1.2 = almost three 2k, so you need only 2-3 1.2 HMIs. they run for about $150/light. You really can't spend that little?

Thanks Patryk; those 2KW go for 28$ each but wow, if they are that much weaker in output than HMI's I won't go for them.
I really wanted to do this job altough I knew the client can only pay little, so there's not much money to spend.

3x as much lights need 3x as much time to set-up and 3x as much electricity to draw from (or rather to worry to find enough outlets) so your savings of $60 on renting 3x 2k instead of 1z 1.2 will be greatly offset by the money that will need to be spent on extra crew and time.

Btw, i have no idea if HMIs is necessary best lighting instrument to use to light the scene but rather i'm haring experience that just because something looks cheaper on face value doesn't mean that it is after you conciser all factors involved.

You should be safe with HMI's at any shutter angle too, but as they say, you should test this before you go out and shoot it. 2k's could work, but it'll get very hot and like Patryk says you'll run out of circuits very quickly. If you have power galore, then maybe it's worth it, but otherwise don't rule everything out yet.
