Need Help on Graphics card decision

Hey all,

I recently acquired Final Cut Studio 5.1 and am looking to put it on my G4 Mac. My G4 Mac was purchased in December of 01 and has an 867 processor with the GeForce2MX card. I was told that card wouldn't work with Final Cut Studio 5.1. Looking at the system requirements for 5.1 they recommend these cards:

Recommended graphics cards: ATI Radeon X850 XT, ATI Radeon X800 XT, ATI Radeon X1600, ATI Radeon 9800 XT or 9800 Pro, ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, ATI Radeon 9600 XT or 9600 Pro, ATI Mobility Radeon 9700, ATI Mobility Radeon 9600, NVIDIA GeForce Quadro FX 4500, NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT NVIDIA GeForce 6600 and 6600 LE, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL or 6800 GT DDL, NVIDIA GeForce Go5200 or FX 5200 Ultra


I was wondering though if most of those cards listed are G5 cards and if they would even work in my system.

I'm really a little lost when it comes to the technical aspect of the softwartware/hardware as this would be my first time owning an editing system. If anyone could help me out on here or even better yet give me a question and answer session off the board on AIM or over the phone that'd be very helpful.

Hey Sam,
According to the ATI website, the Radeon 9800 Pro is a G4 card and it's on Apple's list. That's the one I would get. Here's the website with specs: http://ati.amd.com/products/radeon9800/radeon9800prome/specs.html

I don't know if you can still buy this new, though.

Hey, thanks Patrick for the help. I went ahead and purchased a used one off of Ebay then. I didn't realize there were two versions of the Radeon 9800 pro at first. The original standard has 128mb and the newer special edition has 256mb. I went with the 128mb just cause I didn't want to spend another $100 at this time.
