Hi, I keep seeing this effect that's quite popular in ads, and trailers and I'd like to know how to achieve it - whether there is a tutorial on this or something close to it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpzUCA5i6zY @ 0;36 mark. One thing I'm certain of is that Optical Flares plug in is DEFINITELY used here (however, HOW, I'd like to know a tutorial on)

here's another example http://vimeo.com/14600747 the very opening.

Both of them have this awesome title page, with the optical flare, and 'dust/texture' particles. I'd really like to know if anyone knows how to do this, or has a tutorial at least.

There are several ways to do an effect like that. Just off of my head, heres somethign to start with
Make a 3d comp and turn on motion blur
Make a 3d camera and make your footage 3d
Jump the camera foward and change its target every second frame for about half a second or less. Change its target all aroudn teh cetner of the screen and maybe the final movement it looks furth off to one side.
(maybe use extra directional blur with the wiggle command for direction)
And then snap the camera back to its starting position.

You can add some extra glows and color seperation effects and then your done.

I just made this up on the spot, so if it doesnt look good, tweek and try to explore. Just disect what you see and then use the tools to replicate it.

For the particle effects, you can get realy basic to copy the super 8 one if your not good with particles.

On a new solid make micro masks with feather, so they look like dust specs. Maybe like 5.
Duplicare the layer a few times, and move the specs around or rotate the layers.
Seperate the layers in 3d space, and push the camera foward and use wiggle on their opacity to make it look like light beams are lighting them up.

This is the easiest:

and This is the best because you'll learn a lot and won't have to depend on a plug-in to do all the work for you:
