Several folks here have many comments about these 'lil gems.

ive had no problems with them as of yet.

But something to concider:

I have a pair of the 600/1200 watt lamps with doors and softboxes. Sometimes i wish i had more, but i am realising that it might be smart to concider purchasing singles at a time depending on the need.

I went to my photography store lately, and saw some Arri floods with doors for only 75-100 dollars more than one of those briteks, and that got me thinking. To have a superior quality light for that little, concidering how much time and money it will save me down the road, might be a much smarter decision.

So as the briteks are serving me well, i can see where issues may arrise. The stands were a pain in the ass at first, kept dissasembling the joints, so the poles couldnt extend, but i figured htat out ( the yjust didnt tighten the appropriate areas before shipping ).

Upon delivery, one of my bulbs blew, but they sent me a replacement right away and no problems such as this have happened, as of yet. Perhaps that one bulb was defective.

I do quesiton the use of a fuse. Confuses me really, since if that blows, the light is incapable of running. Haven't had one blow on me yet, but things always tend to happen at the most interesting moments.
All that being said, they are decent for the price.

One thing that bothers me terribly is the ring of light the emit at the joint of the light to the doors, or light to the softbox. Light spills out the sides of them, which a) reduces the amount of light hitting the subject and b) has to be sealed off so that strange patterns arent emitted from them.

anywho, make up your mind, but think about buying piece by piece. And remember in the long run, they will probably save you time and money, and the most important thing, your sanity.

just know that the price you pay for a light kit will equal what quality it will give you. i have something similar to that (as i am but a poor film student), and don't use the soft boxes (they're really odd setups to me... i'd rather use a diffuser) and they still work well for what i need them for.

the main issue with those kinds of lighting is that they're really bright, but they don't diffuse as far around. the more expensive and larger lights may not be as "powerful" as the soft ones, but it works to your advantage because the light is not as harsh and spreads out farther. if you use this kit, it'll be fine- just know your camera setup and learn to bounce the light off walls or through diffusers etc.
