So in my upcoming short film I am wanting to do a shot of my main actress laying on the ground staring up at the trees/sky. I want 2 shots. One where the camera is pointing straight down and close on our actress face. The camera would be on a JIB and slowly pull up to reveal more of her body but I would also like the camera to be rotating in a circle as we move the jib up.

Problem is my ronin-m only goes 180 and smaller gimbals that can do 360 degree are to small for my Canon C200. Any suggestions?

Dolly and jib? Rent a bigger gimbal?

Or shoot in the highest resolution you can (maybe rent an 8K RED), and do the move in post. Did that a couple times for music videos...pretty much the shot you're describing...in the last days of standard def by shooting with a HD camera and doing the moves in After Effects. Worked well enough...

Or if you're aiming for a 1080 finish, maybe you can do it with your C200?

Do other gimbals allow for a full 360 degree movements? I did consider shooting 4k and 1080p delivery but I plan to submit to Toronto and Sundance so I would like to deliver in full 4K

I can't quite understand why your Ronin won't spin beyond 180 degrees. It may be hitting the handlebar, but when mounted to a jib, it should be able to spin around and around. Are you having clearance issues with the Ronin hitting the jib or something? I'm a MoVI user (I have an M5, an M10, an M15, and a PRO), and haven't specifically used the Ronin beyond just playing with it at trade shows, but I can't see any reason why it wouldn't pan around and around like my MoVI does.

I don't completely understand what axis you want the camera to rotate on, but if it's the vertical axis, you can just shoot 4k and rotate in post. Export to a 4k final, and don't tell anybody: they just won't notice.

So my thought is that the ronin would be mounted like this

Then the camera would be pointed straight down at the actress who is laying on the ground. I would have a operator rising the jib arm while I used the ronin remote but I could have sworn it only turns half way around then stops? Because I could never do a full 360 pan move due to the ronin stopping once I reached 90 degrees from what I remember. (I do not have one at the moment but use to own one)
