I AM NEW TO HD & EDITING HD

so I yesterday was my first HD wedding, I filmed with a Sony HVRz7u camcorder that films 1080i 24P, HDV to tape..

I edit with Adobe premiere CS3 and I need some help on editing. First, whenever I edited SD in a timeline I picked 29.976 timeline with my 24P footage. So for editing HD do I chose just HDV 1080i 30?

My other question is whenever I am done editing, How do I export it as? Whenever I tried exporting a short clip it didn't turn out 16:9, it looked like it was a squeezed version of 4:3..

My last question.. Do I need to export it 2 ways.. say I was to export it and put it on a regular DVD, or putting it on Blu Ray disk...

Hopefully I said everything right. Thanks, any help will be greatly appreciated

For the start of the project when it asks you the settings you wish to use try the HDV 1080p24. I'm still trying to figure out why it is exporting to 4:3 but will post when I figure it out.

You're getting 4:3 because your PAR (pixel aspect ratio) is set to 1.33, so the pixels aren't square. You can either just tell the player to recognize it as a widescreen footage or export out with Square Pixel at 1920 x 1080.

What/how are you Exporting? ie a Movie or Adobe Media Encoder

Is the result "squished" or cropped ?

the result is squished/ cropped on the left/ right sides a tad bit...

I was exporting as a movie, I am going ot look at the media encoder real quick though.. Still dont understand though haha. thanks for the help though so far!
