I have a 552 as well and love it. But 10 year warranty? The 552 manual explicitly states it has a 1 year warranty. You probably won't need it though and Sound Devices has amazing support.

He meant the Rode mic. Rode's have a 10 year warranty.

Not sure how that 's' got in there, must have just been thinking about how you can use the 552 to hammer nails. The 552 does NOT have a 10-year warranty. It still kicks ass. =)

Absolutely! I even used it to help track an EP I was producing for a side project. One of my most reliable pieces of equipment.

FWIW, I've used a Tascam HD-P2 on many projects along with a SD-302 and it's been a great combo with a variety of mics... You may be able to pick up a used HD-P2 for a good price.
