need help capturing tape from unknown sony

I have three dv tapes that fell into my lap. I do not know what cam they were shot on. i do know it was a sony. I have panny hvx200. this is the only thing i have to read tape. two of the tapes will play on my cam but one will not at all. however when i try to capture fcp tells me that my cam can not read the data. is there anything i can do or am i screwed.

Hey ABL,

your HVX200 will probably not play the tapes, because they were shot with the HDV codec. (Just a guess because of the sony camera.)

Try to get your hands on some HDV camera (doesn't matter if it's the worst consumer **** in hell, when it has tape an HDV) and try with that one.

My guess is that the codec is incompatible with the HVX200.
