Hi there,

I have recently bought myself a Canon XH A1 and need some help in capturing some footage with Adobe Premiere Pro CS3. I am quite a novice when it comes to cameras but thought I would just buy a decent one and learn with that rather then constantly upgrading etc. I am the kind of person who prefers to bo thrown in the deep end when it comes to stuff like this.

I have connected the camera to my PC with a firewire cable and can get the footage to play on my computer moniter but I cant work out how to actually capture it. I'm sure that I'm just missing something blatently obviouse here.

If someone could give me a newbie guide to capturing footage from your camera to Premiere it would be much appreciated.

I have recorded in HDV 60i and am attempting to capture in HDV 60i also. I can't remember off the top of my head exactly what I press to capture the footage (I'm at work) but I seem to be able to get a .mpeg clip but when I drag it into my timeline it says something like "Media Offline" with a red background in lots of different languages.

What am I doing wrong?

It sounds like you captured the HDV clips correctly if you have created mpg videos. If Premiere is telling you that your clips are offline then perhaps the clips have been moved (or oops, deleted) and you have to find them and relink the clips to the correct location.

I've found myself opening up a large project and getting the warning of offline clips only to discover my external hard drive was off. Close the project without saving, turn on the hard drive and then reopen the project. The video clips are available again and everything is back to normal.
