Need help building a boom pole

I'm building a boom pole for my Azden shotgun mike using a Home Depot light bulb changer. The Azden shockmount uses a 3/8" Euro thread to 5/8" USA thread adapter, which fits any standard mike stand. I need a threaded stud that will be mounted on the end of the pole, allowing me to attach the shock mount. For some reason, a 5/8" fine threaded bolt won't screw into the shock mount adapter. What's the proper size and thread type for a standard mike stand?

There is a guy on ebay selling turned aluminum adapters for about $10-$15, that take the painter's pole, and allow you to mount your shock mount. Believe me, after driving all over town a few times, this is the quickest cheapest solution.
 
And when you get that, you can head over to Ace Hardware, where they have foam rubber tubes for about a buck. Lube the pole up with some dishsoap, and you can slide the rubber tube onto the pole to cushion handling noises.
 
And if you've gotten this far, go the extra step and visit a beauty/hair supply place, and look for the rubber bands for hair, the kind for little girls with two plastic balls. These are great for securing the cable so that it doesn't bang against the pole.
 
If your planning on using this for awhile I would find a hobbyist machinist to make an end for the pole. The 3/8 thread is an american standard thread (or at least there is a 3/8 standard thread that fits). The bigger 5/8 is not used on most boom poles. First the threads are too fine and damage VERY easily and second they are too large to allow pistol grips the have them in the end. The 5/8 is also a specialty thread series and you won't find it in normal places. Black Audio Devices sells taps and dies if you really want to go there.
