okay , heres my problem. I just finished a 15min short spents thousands of hours. ****! I accidently erased the FREAKING ENTIRE FOLDER! i CAN'T FIND ANY RESTORE POINT OR ANYTHING. ITS 46GIGS OF FINISHED PRODUCT NOW ITS ALL GONE. I DESPRETLY NEED THIS BY MONDAY. I'M PANICING RIGHT NOW. IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN BRING THIS BACK? IS THERE ANYTHING THAT I CAN DO TO GET ALL MY FILES BACK. YOU KNOW HOW WHEN YOU DELETE A BIG ASS FILE IT DOESNT GO TO THE RECYLE BIN. WELL THIS IS 46GIGS THAT I WORKED SO FREAKIN HARD NOW ITS ALL GONE. HELP ME PLEASE ANYONE...SHAIITTIIATITAIATI PLEASE!!!

thats nothing....i once accidently FORMATTED an entire 180gig hardrive with all of my shite!

but, thankfully i found these cats....and it recovered ALL of my data...it was pretty amazing.

get a piece of software called "recover it all"..its costs about 100bucks, and they have 24hour tech support. they will get your data back...

anyway...i recommend them. good luck man. harddrives are funny little things...even after you delete something, they never really go away untell other data is writen over them, even then, its still kinda there. think of it as paint on a wall. you can go and paint it blue, then paint red over it...but if you peal back the red, the blue is still there. good luck yo!

I think I'm going to hang myself now. My friend could only salvage 80% but the files ended up being all courrupted. It's hopeless ****! Oh well, farewell my friends. :'(

Bummer. Did you lose all the project files? In Premiere Pro I keep my project files on the C: drive and my Scratch disk is separate. If I accidently lose the scratch disk I can reassemble the clips from the project files. Can you do something similar or are you s.o.l.?

It's pretty much gone! I just to learn how to forget about it and move forward. It's just I feel really bad for the entire crew who each put their heart into this project. My phucken dumb ass just accidently hit that dam delete button. There were two 9gig files that I was able to get back but half way through the movie the video went gray. IT'S ALL GONE. :'( And what's worse is I didn't tell my editor yet about this. She's a very emotional person and I know this is going to be very devastating to her. :'( I'm really afriad to tell her but of course I eventually have to. This is something that is going to haunt me for the rest of my life. It's kind of like building a house with your own hands and then accidently burn it down. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Sorry to hear about that Blue.
I hope everyone on your crew understands. Accidents happen. Especially with computers. I think damn near everyone has a "Computer Horror Story".
They are Cursed Machines, and my bet is that when you die, if you go to hell, you will find that there are plenty of computers there.

Don't you have the original footage on Mini DV? Can't it be salvaged that way? Or did you do direct to disk w/ no back-up.

The footage could most likely be retrieved by a pro company as they can do far better then consumer software but I get the impression that if you get it back next week it's no longer needed.

This is a super shitty deal! I've lost lots of stuff to a jackass computer but never anything on this level. Not sure how I would react. :'(

However. IMO, I would pull the drive and get the stuff back anyway. Missed deadline or not I would still want it back.

Spider you have my condolances. Like most of us here, We have lost good stuff due to crappy computers. I think explain to everyone, maybe look into a salvage company, take a break for xmas and then make something even more amazing in the new year.

Oh jeesh, I feel your pain. Three months into a new computer and the hard drive just died. Being a new computer I got lazy and hadn't done a recent backup. Bang, about a month of anything new on the drive was gone. :(

VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Stop using your computer if you have accidentally deleted a file.

Why? Because deleting a file does not "remove" it from your drive. Instead, the space used by the file is marked as free space. The data is still available. But, if you continue to use your computer then there is a very good chance that any data written to your drive will be written in the space used by the deleted file.

An unerase utility can find a "deleted" data and mark the data as not free and owned by the file. But, if portions of the data were used by new file writes then there is no way to recover the data.

How do you recover the data if you can not run your computer? You boot from a CD or floppy drive and run a recover utility from there. Or, remove the drive and have a service recover the data for you.

But, the most important thing to do just after you accidentally delete a file is to turn off the computer and stop using it.

Hans- its too late for me to get my files back anyways. I panic and did somecrazy stuff to my computer and now the big avi files are corrupted. All I can do now is start over and ask for an extentsion. Thanks for all the condolences. I'm just going to pick my self up and continue moving forward. ;D
