Need Help! ASAP. Trouble with Comressing UComp HD to H.264

Just onlined a video for Geffen. Label loves it. Signed off on the online. HVX 200 720 PN footage - Offlined on FCP, upconverted to 720P / 59.94 Uncompressed 8 bit via Kona Card to D5 tape, ingested to Avid DS / Flame system, output back to D5 (720p / 59.94) for deliverable and as an uncompressed QT file (720p / 59.94) for encoding.

Whenever the QT file encodes to DVD or H.264 after plpaying two minutes, it begins to judder and stutter. Does anyone have an idea what's going on?

Ask the person that did the encoding.

It would be a lot easier than asking people on the net to guess what app you used to encode the program, the data rate used for encoding or the computer used to playback the quicktime.

I did the encoding on compressor
I solved the mpeg 2 problem by lowering the bit rate slightly

Re: H264, I found these setting to solve the stutter issue: 59.94 fr, 60 key frame, data rate 800 kps, sound AAC mono 64kp, size 500 x 281. However, the quality suffers as the lower key frame rate doesn't yield as high quality as what I often find ideal, 24 frame rate at 240 key frame. I use 24p at 240 kframe alot for DVC PRO HD but never have ideal results with uncompressed 720p@60. The original footage was shot at 720p 24pn on an hvx.

I though of downconverting via Kona 3 from Uncompressed file to DVC 100 HD and using that as my encoding source.

Any thoughts or experience in encoding from 720p uncompressed.

re: asking people on the net.

I'm looking for people who've experience encoding from uncompressed HD files. Not the usual source files (DVC PRO, DV, etc) I read about here. These files are huge (36gigs for a 3:30 video) so I'm sure there are considerations to be made.

Was Compressor designed for this kind of transcoding?

You can see the video at www.sampsonandnaylor.com. It's the one, top row center. As you can see, it's quality is not as good as the others which none were encoded from Uncompressed.

Emergency over. It's been educational.
720p / 59.94 does not encode well to any frame rate that doesn't divide evenly. Discovered all is well if you encode at 29.97. 23.98 is a world of jitters even though the camera scanned at 24pn.

So anyone upconverting to uncompressed for online and want to encode from your online file, stay divisible by two.

Check it out at sampsonandnaylor.com Brick and Lace Video.
