Need help ASAP Audio/24p!!!!!!!

Hi. I'm a first-timer using this message board. AND I just traded in my Sony HVR-Z1U for this miraculous Panasonic DVX100A. I shot everything on my first tape in 24p and the audio in 48khz. But, I only have Final Cut Express HD. Can I edit 24p in the new version of Final Cut Express??? Or am I a major idiot (wannabe editor) that has ruined his life because he can't work with his footage? I immediately grabbed my Powerbook and threw all the footage into it, dying to start editing the beautiful images. Problem is, when I played all the video back. The audio was completely out of sync. Totally noticeable. I gotta tell ya. I am quite terrified. I just wanna shoot 24p soo badly. Even if I'm not editing in 24p, that is fine! As long as I can output to DVD or back to the mini-dv tape in 24p, everything is great. Can anybody please help me? I would appreciate it soo much you have no idea. Thank you very, very much in advance if you can.......

I do not believe express will handle 24p. You would need to upgrade to pro for that. I'm pretty sure it will only handle 1080i and 720p, not at 24fps.

BUT, check your preferences and see what file your capturing......if I'm wrong, then a few changes to your capture settings could make a world of difference!!

Only FCP supports true 24fps editing.
For comparison:

You can shoot 24p (f5). not 24pa (f6). This can be captured and edited at 29.97 but will have the look of 24fps (same as movies transferred to video) You can output this to DVD or DV video.
Sound should be in sync. Make sure sound goes to the same device as video.
Both have to go to computer OR to firewire. If you put video out to firewire and listen to audio on computer it will be out since there's a process/delay to output.

If the capture is out of sync check disk space, turn off other apps, etc.

So you are saying I cannot edit in 24p. But I can capture and edit in 29.97? But how come when I press play in FCE HD the video and audio are way out of sync straight from the timeline??????? I am using an external Sennheiser microphone. Is there a setting on the camera I need to tweak maybe. I am new to almost all of this. I've only upgraded to Final Cut Express from iMovie only a few months ago. And I just cannot afford Final Cut Pro after buying the DVX100A.

Yes, you can capture and edit 24p in 29.97 timeline.

Sync should not be an issue unless you had problems capturing (such as capture now for 60 minutes is just askign for problems)
Try capturing a short section with sound you can see the sync issue.
As mentioned if you have other apps running or are low on disk space you coudl get sync problems.
Are you capturing to internal drive or external firewire drive?
If external try doing a short test capture to the internal drive.

I've got 1Gig of RAM and I'm capturing to a LaCie 500gig drive that has never given me any problems before. I also found out though that if I use the "clip" button to capture and add the in and out points the audio and video are in sync aftewards. In other words. I can't capture using capture 'now' but I can set in and out points and capture with capture 'clip.' I don't know why that is. Got any suggestions??? With 'now' the audio is completely out of sync and I never capture anything more than 3 minutes at a time usually. With 'clip' the audio is in sync. I just don't know why that is. I don't like to use 'clip' because I don't have a deck and it puts alot of strain on the heads like everyone is saying. Do you think there is a problem with the camera???
