Need cheap light kit or reasonable rental and how to light against backlight.

I have a location that I am going to film in that has a lot of natural back light coming in from windows. My subject will in front of the windows and the camera (canon t3i) will be facing subject/windows. Would a strategically placed reflector help or should I go with lights to fill? also soft diffused or spot? I am also on a very small budget so if anyone can recommend a cheap brand of lights that would surfice (not interested in durability-will spend $ later) or a reasonable rental house. Thank you!

A reflector may or may not work depending on the lighting ratio you are looking for.
Soft or hard fill light would depend on the mood you were trying to set.

What kind of a location are you talking about, a small apartment with a couple of double hung windows, a factory shop floor with a wall of windows, or something in between? Is the "Natural back light" direct sunlight or sky light? How small of budget? You can start uber low budget and get scoop clamp work lights with daylight balanced , high CRI CFL bulbs and diffuse them, or bounce them off foam core, or white walls, if avaialble, to bring up the light level inside the room. Add more clamp lights for more light if you need. That would be the least expensive way to go. Test your CFLs to see if how they match the natural light and watch out for any funky colors, that is why a high CRI is important. Next up would be the plethora of daylight balanced LED lights out there. There are a lot of those, so I would look around and read the reviews if you want to go that way. Ditto on the choice of hard vs. soft light. It depends on what you want it to look like.

Hey NWSTUDIOS and David Smith thanks for the replys. The room is a bar that has almost panaramic windows allowing in nautral skylight. My subject has his back to them-so there will be light directly behind and to the sides of him. I like soft light but focused to make the subject stand out-I assume I can accomplish this with a spot and diffuser of some sort. I also want want a kicker on the shoulders. The clamp lights appeal to me, but can they accomplish the task? And what can I diffuse the light with?

Thanks again! David, I noticed you are from Detroit. I'm from Grosse Pointe. How about those Lions?!
