Need Alley in LA ASAP - Help!

I come to all you, my friends at dvxuser in need!

So I'm shooting a short film starting Wednesday and we have some major location issues. We had selected our "alley" location and then went to Film LA to make sure the alley was public and not private property... everything was good, and then last week Film LA wanted us to get signatures from the business owners in the area saying it was okay to shoot during off hours.... thats where s--- hit the fan. One of the people by the alley told us it was private.... long story short, the property manager said it was "a waste of his time" if we couldn't pay $11,000 for a location fee. total jerk.

we need an alley location in LA... that is public property or with a location fee of less than $1000 for a night. keep in mind, we are shooting at night 6pm-6am, so residential won't work.

Please Please Please... if you've shot in an alley in LA or know of a good spot, please let me know.

... on a side note, I'll be posting a production blog on here in the next few days.

thanks!!!

Tough spot! I hate when a location falls through. There are a couple of locations out here in Upland I would suggest, but you are probably looking for that "ugly urban" look.

You can try the alley behind our offices, also known as The Most Famous Alley in LA. I guarantee you've seen it. I'm not sure if $1000/day will cut it, but the building management is pretty reasonable and may be willing to talk to you.

Alleys in LA are public property. Private land owners have no rights to tell you what you can or can't do. The City can make life hard for you though, and the private property owner can get the City on your back with a phone call.
