Need advice on monitors

I've liked the Mackie HR824's for a while now, and the prices are getting more agreeable. The thing about the Mackie's is that they are deadly accurate. Genelecs are great monitors, but if you get the smaller set you're going to need a sub. I've heard good things about DynaAudio, but I haven't got a chance to hear them.

Try to see if you can find a used set of Yamaha NS10's. If your mix sounds good on NS10's they will work anywhere.
I'd stay away from those. There were surely good mixes coming out of those but mostly due to the awful speakers. The NS10s lack bass and highs, and after boosting those on your mix to hear everything flat on NS10s it ends up sounding more bass and treble rich on other sound systems. That's the "magic" behind NS10 and why many swear it's the best thing in the world.

I have the mackie HR624 monitors on my editing computer and 5 HR824,s + HRS120 sub on my TV. A little excessive maybe but watching a movie at my house sounds better than the theater.
If you can afford them go with the HR624,s

i'd stay away from genelecs or mackies unless you have a lot of mixing experience. don't get me wrong, they sound great, too great. you will likely find that your mixes will not sound as good on other systems. i have a pair of mackie 824's and a pair of really nice dynaudio's but i always revert back to my cheapo krk rokit 5's to keep perspective on my mix. i am an audio guy by trade and own a studio so this is something i deal with every day.

I have some Behringer Truth B2031 Monitors and they sound awesome. I got them from a place online called www.zzounds.com and I think I paid under $300 for the pair. They may have been on sale...I can't remember.
I have the Truth montors also and would second the recommendation. These monitors are matched and have lots of tweeks available on the backside and dual inputs (XLR and phono). My Father, a jazz bassist, always told me to buy speakers by the pound. The truth have some serious mass for their size.

So the point is:

Everyone loves the monitors THEY'VE used and it's absolutely completely and totally pointless to get an unbiased opinion by asking such a question.

Go to your local pro-shop that has them set up side-by-side and listen. That's the only way to do it.

There is also one easy solution: for the absolute reference get the biggest Genelecs you can afford... Then position them the best way you can...

Hi, bloodyjack.

Can you discuss your feelings about the difference between HR624s and HR824s? I would like to hear comments from the real user who has both. :) I have been thinking of HR624s and would like to know how do they compare with bigger HR824s. Thanks.
