Need Advice on Microphone

I recently purchased an HVX200 and am looking to get a microphone with it. I do a lot of short films where I have someone holding the boom, but I will also be doing some corporate events and weddings. I was looking at the Rode VSM, but I wanted some advice from anyone who has experience with this.

Thanks very much!!

check out the audio forum stickies, lots of recommendations based on budget and intended use. I'd say either the oktava or rode ntg1 though. I'd avoid a stereo mic.

i say dont scrimp on your mic.

i have a sennheiser mkh416 that i LOVE! its like $1200 but WAY better than the entry-level me66. and i just recently bought a shure vp88 stereo mic thats really interesting. it can be used either handheld, boom or camera mounted (with a shoe adapter)

Do not skimp on the mic, go for the sennhiser mkh416 phantom powered version or the rode ntg-2, if you want you can also go for an audio technica 4073a which is a smaller great sounding mic. if you are doing weddings the lavaliers are the way to go in which case i would recommend the sennheiser evolution 100 series , they are inexpensive and easy to work with and sound OK.

BTW, stock lav mics on the Sennheiser EV series are JUNK!
Great wireless gear, but lame mics. You dont have to but a $800 mic for a $400 wireless kit, but dont be afraid to check some other mics out.

I replaced mine with Countryman b3s in beige for skin-mount stealth. They sound fine. The stock Sennheiser mics are usable in a pinch, but no better.
