Hey guys i need your help!!

I am currently a student filmmaker and my friend works for a DJ company in NJ and the company needs a new promotional video to put on their site... so he told his boss how awesome i am and it looks like i may get my first real job with my DVX....

so since i have never really done this sort of thing before i was wondering if anyone could clue me in on what i should charge?

pretty much it will just be me doing everything. i will have to go to about 2 or 3 events to film the majority of the b-roll, and then i will be editing it all together at home... nothing fancy (graphics wise) i just have final cut.

im thinking this will run around 2 or 3 min long....

so what should i charge? also should i charge for gas money back and forth to the different events?

thanks so much!

anyone? have any advice at all?

Normally, when I am shooting something like that (and it's just me & A PA, camera, audio, and some lights) it comes out to be around $1,000-$2,000 per finished minute Of course, that depends on how many different events they want b-roll from. So *I* would charge somewhere around $3,000-$6,000. However, I have no clue what your experience is, so I can't tell you exactly what to charge. Ask yourself, how much do you want to make an hour? $25, $50, $100? Come up with that and then figure out your hours from there. Of course, remember that no one actually truly charges for all the hours they work (at least not at a $100+ an hour) I normally end up throwing in 3-10 hours per project that I never charge for.

thanks so much macville.

im pretty sure it is going to be just me doing everything....

i consider myself pretty experienced, but not necessarily with promotional videos, and i am also a college student so i have to figure that in to the price as well

considering circumstances, tell him 500 dolla make ya holla and add it to your reel. You can double it next time.
