Need Advice On Building Mac Editing System

I've been stitching together pieces for months making several expensive mistakes in the process. Will someone familiar with the new Mac Pro (Intel) tell me what they would buy if they wanted an editing system to work with. I use FCE. I intend to upgrade to FCP. I would even go to Avid if it gave me a better chance at eventually going from hobby to profession. This advice should include processor speed (the Pro has 2), video card, hard drive(s) size, computer monitor(s) size, NTSC monitor type and size and where to buy it, etc. I use a DVX100B and like to shoot in 24pa with output to DVD. HELP!

Any mac should do just fine! I use a macbook pro, 30" Apple Display, some external hd's, Panasonic DV1000 deck, Roland audio monitors, and a JVC 15" TM-H150CG color monitor. This setup is speedy for FCP and After Effects, although I do plan on getting a Mac Pro later this year. This is what I would get:

Fastest QUAD Proccessor Mac Pro, at least 256mb graphics card, at least 2gb's ram (from www.dealram.com), 250gb hard drive from apple, 3x750gb sata II hard drives (not from apple) raided together internally, and possibly AJA Kona 3 card.

Like I said earlier, any mac that is out now will handle MiniDV 24pA just fine. But, the faster the better, right? Get the largest monitor you can afford, the 30" is very nice and I like it much better than having dual monitors. Also, the 15" color monitor is great to give you an idea of what your video really looks like. Hard drive space is hard to answer because I am not how much you plan on editing. Have at least a system drive and a video drive. FCP is great but AVID is the leader in the industry...if you buy FCP learn AVID just in case, and vice versa.

Where did you find the NTSC monitor? I have found a few online but not one company has mentioned price. Also, in terms of monitors, how simple is simple. Some are quite complicated and I'm not a professional, not yet. I'm looking for WYSIWYG with the least fussing around.

monitor size doesnt matter at all becuase no matter how big your screen is your composer menue will always be the same size

Just search the monitor and it should come up. I baught mine from PC Nation.

KROOKEDKROWN,

The larger monitor, the more room for the timeline, browsers, effects bins, clip bins, etc. Generally for video work the more video real estate the easier it is to edit.
