Need advice on a DV capture deck

But yeah, it's a good and low-cost way to get a "deck".
For a REAL deck, the Sony DSR-11 is about the starting point.

yeah no Best Buy here...but they sell stuff a lot cheaper than Best Buy

thanks...i thought a camera would work as well...its all 1's and 0's anyway...any suggestions on which camera works the best?

Just component out and firewire. I capture using the firewire on my Powerbook with FCP. I don't use the s-video, instead, I go firewire from the computer to the camera, then component out to the monitor or television.
 
I personally don't know about that one, but I just verified that the one I use outputs s-video through the "A/V" output, which is a three-way mini-plug connection. It's a Samsung SC-D353, and I paid about $300 at Best Buy.
