Need advice interviewing candidates for a music video

Hey everyone,

We're shooting a music video which consists about half and half of the band playing and a story line.

The story line calls for a male and female. We have put out a casting call and have received tremendous interest.

Since there are no speaking parts, I've made the executive decision not to conduct auditions per se, but rather to interview the candidates.

The only problem is, I'm a little stumped on what information I should be looking for from each person we interview.

Any suggestions or input from you would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You still have the option of having them read lines even if the part won't call for it. For some talent, it helps them get in to character.

BUT...since there are no lines...I would suggest you still put them on tape by 'directing' them through what the scene will look like. If you have a storyboard of the shots it will make it easier.

Also...without knowing the song...I am assuming your male and female may be in some scenes together. I would suggest pairing up men and women to do some 'acting' without words and look for chemistry too.

If I knew more about what the roles required I could probably get more specific.

You could point your questions so that you get an emotional response. Nothing too probing, but some general questions to elicit a look or feeling... but I agree with Michele- pairing the talent and blocking a scene and moving through it is important. Stills could also play a role since you will be creating moving portraits (I'm guessing- like Michele said, need more information). Even interview the talent together and let them discuss and play off of one another to see the chemistry... Interesting take on the casting process though... I might have to steal it. It opens up some strange but never-the-less cool possibilities...
