Need a plugin to add light to an interviewee's face

I found this: http://fcpdaily.com/2010/02/fcp-free-marcus-herricks-haiku-plugins-for-fcp-face-light-easy-vignette/

But it seems to be an old plug in or something because when I try to download it and then unzip it, I can't get FCP 7 to recognize it. It downloads two folders (Marcus and Marcus 2) and no matter which of those I click on and then double click on "facelight" I get an dialogue box from FCP that says "wrong file type."

Anyone know of a similar plug in... I have an interview and his right eye is almost completely blacked out...

i know this isn't very helpful... but this is why you have to light properly when you're shooting.

dark video inherently has very little color / picture information. if it's not there in the master file, no plugin will create it out of thin air. localized gain or some sort of faux spot light effect like you're looking for may help a little, but my guess would be that it would just look like grainy crap. also i would NOT expect to find a one button magic want type plugin. you'd probably need some roto and after effects just to even see if you can do anything with it. cant hurt to try i guess, but dont get your hopes up. good luck.

Boosting the levels with a vignette is useful if you have some base information in the native file, but if the right eye is "completely blacked out" as shot, then you'll just end up with the right eye "grayed" out with plenty of noise.

there should be that ability in Color, and for sure there is that ability in Magic Bullet Looks called spot exposure.

Spot exposure, or bring the clips into After Effects, create an adjustment layer then garbage mask it approximately the same size as the area you want to relight, track a point to have the mask move with the subject, apply corrections and feather it. That's the simplest method I know for relighting dark footage in post.

Color can do this super easy. If you want to do this in FCP, an easy way is to create a oval matte, soften it, use this a travel matte. Duplicate the clip and stack on top of each other. Color correct the top later and use the new matte to adjust only the needed area.
