...for the worst. My character needs to undergo an event that causes heavy emotional stress which will lead to his psychosis. My initial thought was to have one of his parents die, but quickly realized how overused and unoriginal that is, although it's still effective. If you have any ideas post them here please, thanks :)
 
Visit WebMD... there's enough depressing information there to feed your own psychosis and cause you to give-up working on the script. :)
 
if you want psychosis-inducing stress, go for guilt - e.g. he was in some way partially responsible for one of his loved ones dying, preferably something original and not just drunk driving, he should have made some selfish but otherwise innocent decision that caused events leading to the loved one's death, and now goes mad blaming himself, perhaps imagining being haunted, reliving the death (either imagining it or perhaps he actually witnessed it)
 
Dying isn't always the worse thing. Sometimes people can be in a state that is worse than death. And that continued state of suffering can easily weigh down someone emotionally. Another angle is maybe your main characters actions caused someone to commit suicide. Have you seen in the news about the mother who wrote to a Teen pretending to be someone else. She was mentally messing with the teen online and it resulted in that teens suicide. That has be devastating, a prank turned into someone's death.

If the traumatic experience is as a result of the characters actions, then there is always the big guilt factor and also the lack of sympathy the audience might have for the character, because he is responsible for his own condition.

How about if, instead, the character witnesses something very disturbing or gruesome? Maybe he witnesses a terrible car wreck and, while trying to help the victims, there are several young children who die in the wreck?

Or maybe he witnesses a bank robbery or hostage situation where an innocent person (or people) are killed.

Or maybe a loved one or acquaintance is killed by a serial killer.

If her is already on the edge, then brushing up against something really awful could push him into the psychosis.

Or perhaps he is the only survivor of a plane crash?

Didn't you ask this question on some other message board and get a bunch of people telling you that this is somethingthat needs to be specific to your story, tied to your story, so you would have to come up with it yourself?

And Im not sure what you (OP) are exactly asking of us. Because really it sounds like you want someone to come with a key element to your script. My suggestion is to research that yourself. Then ask questions maybe on a scene set up you have created but want to tweak etc
 
Hey Bill, I was going to say the same thing. I'm pretty sure nouou posted a thread asking for help to come up with an ending for this same script idea, unless is was a different one.....

Nouou, is the story idea with the main scene that you've written being the lead sitting on the crapper? (BTW I'm not saying that to be sarcastic if anyone else was wondering).
