Does anyone know a good free online source where I can get a bunch of sound effects? I need rain, interior sounds, room tones, etc. i have searched but only find low quality stuff. just thought I would ask in case someone here knows a gem of a source.

Thanks!

(If you use sounds from FreeSound there is no cost, but you must credit the creators of the sound in the credits of the film.

Check out SoundDogs.com. Not free, but reasonable and generally good quality. Note: Room tone doesn't come from a library - that's something you record on the set at the time you're shooting. With everyone present and talent in position, but everyone standing still and silent, you roll sound for about a minute for each setup. What you can often find in a library is ambience such as "crowded deli, lunch hour" or "big city railroad station" but that's not the same thing as room tone. Room tone is the "sound of silence" in a given space.

I may as well toss in the obligatory definition: It's 'Foley', not 'foley'. Foley is performed live to picture, it doesn't come from a library.

Yes! "Foley" is capitalized as it is in homage to Jack Foley. Jack was not the first to perform footsteps, etc. to picture, but his processes and methods codified how to do it creatively and efficiently and are still used to this day.

Once Foley performances become part of a sound library and are cut to picture (rather than performed) they become Sound FX.
