necessary purchases for new dvx buyer

Im purchasing the cam but don't know about all these accesories. I figure I'll pick up at least one of the dvxuser batteries. I can't afford a tripod so that will come a little later. What about UV filter, what does that do? A bag or case maybe?

Are there any things i should really consider picking up?

Re: necessary purchases for new dvx buyer

First thing I attached to mine was a 1A filter (hey, it was free).
Second thing I got was a Lowepro backpack.
3rd was a ME66 and K6.
Coming soon is a tripod (I think I'm going to get the Bogen 755 and some Gitzo head at the suggestion of Rush).

Re: necessary purchases for new dvx buyer

I definitely would NOT buy a case before a UV filter/lens protector, because it does what it says and protects the lens. You can get by without a case for a little while if you're careful (and you can take the Hudson route and buy a carpenter's bag at Home Depot), but if your lens isn't protected, you risk scratching or otherwise damaging it -- and that's worse than the cam getting a little dusty.

Re: necessary purchases for new dvx buyer

cool thanks guys

I can probably pick 3 or 4 things, Just not 300 for a tripod right now.

So UV filter protects the lens? I wasn't sure if it changed the image or something but if it protects it then I'll pick one up? Are there different kinds? how much should it cost?

Re: necessary purchases for new dvx buyer

yes.. UV lense filter is mandatory.. do not... i repeat..do not use your camera without.. or you will be forever sorry

Re: necessary purchases for new dvx buyer

Make sure it's a multi-coated UV protector; if it's clear, you won't have any issues with the image being altered. Think Hoya, B+W . . .

Re: necessary purchases for new dvx buyer

Oh yea, I got 2 DVX user batts.

Think I'm gonna order my tripod tomorrow..... Yeesh.... Spending too much money at EVS.

Re: necessary purchases for new dvx buyer

I agree whole heartedly with David;
Can we say it any more clearly do not even take delivery of the camera without having a UV filter to put on it. You choose a $50-$100 dollar filter or a $1000 lens :)
I would also spend the money to get a good hard case, such as a Pelican case. If your are planning on doing any outdoor shooting or traveling with your camera a hard case is a must. You will be forever thankful the first time you drop the case or some clumsy sod drops a light stand or tool box on the case!
Everything else just get it as need requires and money allows.
Happy shooting! ;D
