Nebtek on camera monitors

After shooting HD down in Savannah, Georgia (the HVX performed beautifully in the sun, sand, and salt), I realize what all the fuss is about focus. So, I'm ready to purchase an on camera monitor to help me get that perfect focus. Does anybody have any experience with the Nebtek series of monitors http://www.nebtek.com/products.php?cat=13? I definitely like the price and I really like that they are modified to run off of a Panasonic battery. But I'm concerned about enough resolution for HD. Any advice or comments would be great! Thanks!

Hey Chris,

I am planning to buy an HVX and a Redrock M2 so I bought the Neb 58 LI which was recommended to me by an associate. Also the guy I bought from was very keen on the HVX. I got it for $599 (DVX users price) at evsonline.com.

NEB 58 LI
Nebtek Lithium-ion Battery powered 5.8" Widescreen TFT LCD Monitor. Perfect for 16:9 Native Mini DV Cameras. Choose Canon, JVC, Panasonic or Sony style Camcorder batteries. 16:9 - 4:3 Switchable, NTSC & PAL, Horizontal & vertical image flip. Rugged housing. Mounts top & bottom.

It reverses the image if needed, and is bright. It is not too big or heavy for top mounting it onto the camera. I have not hooked it up yet buy it is highly regarded. The HD models cost over twice as much. Let me know what you find out. Best of luck.

As far as I can see, none of the Nebek monitors have a component or VGA input which I consider essential. Without it you cannot get the HD signal out of the camera and are forced to take the composite feed which looks like doo. I went with the Lilliput 7" VGA, a componet to VGA transcoder I velcroed to the back of the camera and a Targus battery I mounted on the Israeli Arm. It looks great and is perfect for focus. It took some trial and error but Larry on another thread about this very subject was very helpful. I spent just under $500 for the whole rig. The next logical upgrade is the HD Marshall but in the meantime this works great. The Nebeks seem over priced but do claim to have a very good brightness factor but without a way to get coomponent in it's out.
