Nebtek LCD. How'd you rate it?

Looking to invest in a small LCD monitor for my HPX-170. I really like the features
of this monitor. One being, you can use Panny's batteries to power this LCD.
I've heard the picture is fantastic and it's pretty durable.

However, I wanted to get some opinions from those of you who have this monitor
or have used this monitor. Is it worth the investment or are there others you
would consider as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

Best.

hi mark,

i have the Nebtek 7" HD *SDI* version with the Panasonic battery mount.

although i dont have occasion to use it a lot ,when i have though i have to say that it is "premier" in its performance. its bright and punchy with great detail for pulling focus which is the only reason i use and the only time that i pull it out to use. if your not going to judge exposure on it you can really crank up the contrast and overall brightness which makes it even easier to grab focus.

TESTIMONIAL OF DURABILITY...
i was in Nashville in early Sept doing several music videos. on a sunday we were doing a non dress rehearsal and basically getting our shot list together. i had my EX-1 on the very tall Miller Solo sticks, fully extended to over 7 feet. i had the Nebtek on the EX-1's hot shoe mounted with a Manfrotto adaptor (beware of this item)...i needed to move my tripod a bit so instead of picking it up i "shimmied" it into position. little did i know or notice that the EX-1 had fell forward and the Nebtek vibrated off and ***fell*** over 5' onto the stage then another 2.5' onto the hard cement floor also pulling the SDI cable out of the back of the EX-1. believe it or not...there was not a mark on this thing except the battery mount crack slightly so the battery wouldnt stay attached. i was able to press the battery in and it still worked. first thing on Monday i called Nebtek, talked to (Trish???) i think thats her name, and asked if they could overnight the battery mount to the location i was shooting at. with no red tape or hassles i had the new battery mount waiting for me the next day (tuesday). i unscrewed the broken mount and attached the new one...all was fine.

when i originally ordered from them they were personal and friendly unlike what you would expect with a big company like sony or panasonic. id have to go so far that they are really more of a rare breed type of company because their rapore with their customers is more like dealing with direct service from a neighbor hardware store...dont find that much these days! also, i had heard from another poster on DVXuser *Tim Naylor* say that their customer service was exceptional...and i will have to agree 100%. he gave very strong thumbs up on the Nebtek's IQ as well.

now that i have a 5DmkII as well i wish i could use the Nebtek for the Canon (needs HDMI) as well but unfortunately it wont work. i hear fairly good things about the iKan 8000 for $1,000 but i cant help but feel that it will fall short compared to the Nebtek.

this thing is a pretty good chuck of change but i didnt want to take a chance on getting one of the cheaper alternatives since focus precision is *paramount*, so i took a chance and went with what appeared to be one of the best options at the time the other being the Panasonic that was a little more expensive.

still owning the DVX100a i had quite a few batteries so it was a savings to not have to buy a whole new battery system. battery life is good assuming you have several Pany batteries to travel with you.

good luck!

David,

Thanks for taking time to reply. You experiences with the Nebtek are exactly
what I would like to hear before plunking down a load of cash.

Your testimonial lets me know of your first hand use in the field and how
it performed. It's good to know that the unit is also well made and can take
a licking.

Being a newbie to the HD camera's, focus is definetely one of the main reasons for me
considering the Nebtek. Not to mention any long shoots which strain my
eyes.

Again, my thanks for taking time to help out.

Best.

Mark
