Could current users of Neat Video give me some tips? I want to minimize my chances of losing detail or slowing down the process. I haven't used it yet but will be installing it soon.

Any settings or workflow advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't have it, only have Neat Image. I have heard though that it's "smart profile" tools can be very useful. Not sure of the exact name right now but they are little boxes that you use to select a portion of the image for analysis, and from that section it suggests settings for you.

Give them a try.

i have it and used the auto profile setting to smooth out some grainy video. Worked well.
1. load plugin. It should appear in your video filters folder>NEAT VIDEO>REDUCE NOISE.
2. Apply the filter to a clip. Open the filter controls, choose OPTIONS
3. in this window you see a frame of your clip; drag/draw the little frame over an area of the video that is uniform in value. If it's not, you'll get a message "area not uniform". Find another area and draw again until you don't get that message.
4. Click on AUTO PROFILE then APPLY. You may choose to save the profile and use it on similar clips.

Thanks so much! I am currently on location in Viet Nam trying to save some noisy footage from an undetected high gain camera preset. We will be editing in Adobe Premiere. I also need to convince the person working with me (who is not a filmmaker or editor, but a project manager) that this filter cannot be applied to the whole tape, which is how she is thinking about it, but to just the edited clips.

Can you give me a sense of how long rendering takes? I have read that takes is a long time. Also would the Neat Video filtered clip even work when moved to another timeline, or would it have to be re-rendered anyway?

I use auto too. This is a good 3rd party. Rendering depends on your system. If you have a faster system you should be ok.

I'd be cautious, good resauts don;t come from the auto settings. Try 3 passes on a low manual setting.

I have installed the demo version and I am playing with it. It seems pretty impressive but I know I must tweak it to get the full use out of it.

By three passes on a low manual setting, do you change the settings each time, or re-clean the same footage using the exact same parameters? What sorts of parameters are you using?

My footage has a high degree of very fine but active grain.

When I try to re-clean an already cleaned clip, by copying/pasting a small excerpt out of the rendered timeline, the uncleaned version (rather than the cleaned clip) comes up in the effect control window where I select the parameters for cleaning. So I am a little confused as to how I can keep cleaning the same clip, since the noisy un-cleaned clip (without the Neat Video Demo stamp) is being sourced even after I copy/paste the clean version. It would seem as if you'd get that cleaner version to continue to re-clean, rather than the original.

Any information about your workflow would be appreciated. I'd also love to know what you mean by low manual setting, since I am new to this software.
