Nearly finished feature....now what?

Hello everyone,

I've been a DVX reader for a long time, just starting to get more involved. I did a search through the section and found nothing. Though Inktip might be a good place to start getting rid of the shorts I have done.

So I've been working on two seperate feature, one I haven't touched in a long time. The other I am on the third revision working on an ending.

To get the script seen, I would assume you would need an agent? Or can you just send out emails inquiring about screenplays to some of the bigger names. This is my first time finishing a feature. And I really don't know where to go next. If I need an agent is there a method of getting one?

Thanks for the help.

Matt, trying to get an agent is a very hard thing to do. Agents generally look for someone who has proven themselves to be a valuable/marketable client before they try and represent them. I advise you to submit the screenplay to writing competitions, if you win some it gives you leverage and a basis for why an agent would be interested in representing you by making your script a commodity.-Adam

I advise that you farm out the script for reviews, then re-write based on those notes.

I'd then let it sit. Then review it again.

If needed, repeat process above until the material is in the best shape.

Competitons are a nice chance (only a handful of comps are worth it IMO).

Agents you often need a referral for, but you can still hit them up with a query.

Producers, with the right concept, will listen desipte what they say.

Everyonewhosanyone.com and hcdonline.com are good resources to getting producer info.

Concept opens doors. What you did with the story will then decide its fate.

Good luck. Welcome to the 'trenches'.

Thanks guys. I actually started writing it for a competition, but things came up and never got along to finishing it. So I missed the deadline. But thanks for the quick responses. I will be sure to keep you all updated. I've had a lot of my friends look it over so far, making changes here and there. Haven't sent it out to get looked at though. We shall see, it will take a while to get it at it's best. It's a process. Just wanted to see how to tackle it after I'm done.

Thanks again!
