NDs on Cinema lenses

So I don't want to shell out for 4 x 4 ND filters. I have some super speeds which have a 80mm front, but of course unthreaded. Does there exist an adaptor that clamps on to the front of a lens which gives u a threaded mount option so I can just use some threaded filters.

I have heard that people use gaffer tape to put step up rings to the front of the lens. Is there a more permanent solution?

The zip box from wooden camera is the closest thing I've seen the but still only allows for expensive 4x4 filters.

If I were to permanently attached a step up ring to a 80mm front which size step up ring is suitable.

I would bet either Focus Optics or Duclos would be able to fix you up.

My thoughts... By the time you spent the coin on doing this professionally rather than rag tag, you could have purchased a matte box with filters.

The majority of my filters are 4x5.65 & 138mm so they cover my lens selection.

FWIW most folks might think filter cost is relative.

As in 4x4 filters being relatively inexpensive compared to a set of say $70K mkIII super speeds.

All the best!

Deleted my own post. I just realized you have unthreaded lenses, not filters, so my suggestion doesn't apply.

I was thinking the same thing!

To save you some time reading, the consensus of that discussion is to just use tape. But camera tape, not gaffer tape. Gaffer tape leaves a gummy, sticky residue. Camera tape ( or "paper tape" ) does not. Camera tape is similar to what is known here in the U.S. as "masking tape". Gaffer tape is the heavy tape with a woven fiber in it for strength.

Were it me, I'd purchase the Wooden Camera Zip box and pick up some pre-owned ND filters off eBay. You should be able to attain everything for under $500. Assuming you are talking about a basic .3, .6, .9 set of ND filters. And not getting into ND grads.
