They really are a ball of cuteness at that age aren't they. One of the coolest features of spring for me is getting shots of wee Canada Geese and Mallards.

Last page I posted a vague shot of this little guy. Ratz get a bad rap. This guy is wild and very timid. It was only by remaining virtually motionless that I managed to get this shot. As soon as the shutter fired he was gone.

I had to do the HDR thing on this since the sun was washing out everything. Too much dynamic range for the camera. It's "ok". I had fun doing it.

Thanks Larry. Shrooms being shrooms made this a semi tough shot. Shrooms just thrive in dark places and these guys were no exception. Usually I carry a tabletop tripod but didn't bring it to this party so I had to ramp the ISO more than I like to.
A tad noisy but not overly. I was real happy with the Chickadee shots:happy:

Ya ... the detail in the feathers is amazing. Do you and your lens get that close to these critters? Do you crop them to make them somewhat larger? I use a 70-210 zoom which with the 1.5X factor makes it a 105-315 ... and sometimes I use a 2X adapter on there; 210-630. Often my subject is still too small in the original. I'm also wondering if you're a get-off-the-trail sort of guy? You know ... crawl through the brush, so to speak? I like to do that when I can.

I was about eight to ten feet away from the chickadee's with a 70-300mm strapped to a d90 which put me at 450mm. I go off the trails for the shroom shots but this time of year it can get pretty wet. I hate going off the trails generally because I don't much care for spider webs across my face  If there is too much negative space I'll crop but like to keep the whole image where possible. My next lens will be an 80-400mm which will put me at 600mm with the d90 and even 400mm with the d700.

This fella has moved into my hood! For those who've never heard the Northern flicker call, it's ...Loud! I've heard him for days but today spotted him/her on a tree roughly sixty feet off my deck. I think they're beautiful, loud but striking just the same. This is roughly a 50% crop but you can see the noisy little bugger quite clearly. It never ceases to amaze me how many wild birds choose to call this urban neighborhood home

This image will be my last to this thread as I'll be focusing my time to sites where I actually am more vibrant as a member. Thanks to all who supported my work over time and good luck to all your future endeavors as a community. Great site, just not one I identify with much these days. Mino.

Thanks dan. For anyone who enjoys my nature work and other stuff I post one image a day, every day at

http://vancouvermoments.aminus3.com/

It's not my intention to leave you high and dry if you like looking it's just that my time is thin and I just have to narrow down or weed out the less productive sites I'm posting to. Hope you understand. Since I've put my video work on the back burner for now, I don't do much at DVXUSER but feed my nature and wildlife thread. No bad feelings from my end, just have to go where I feel more a part of a community:2vrolijk_08:
