Natural Dialog

With depth and subtext. You want your actors to sound natural, you want to turn cardboard acting into something realistic and three dimensional? Give your actors words that they could relate to.

You can get a great performance out of a decent actor if you do this.

Bad and unmotivated dialog is at the root of all bad acting, in my opinion

Well...not *all* bad acting. Look low enough on the food chain (micro budget indie) and well, *bad acting* is at least as likely to be at the root of the bad acting. And you don't have to look very hard to find it.

On the other hand, I agree that bad dialog writing can make it far more challenging for a decent actor to do well.

As an actor, I have personally grappled with both of the above issues : )
