National Treasure

I was pleasantly surprised . . . a pretty complex script that managed not to be contrived, one that kept my interest through to the end.

It tries to be Indiana Jones, 2004. It doesn't quite make it, but it's not a bad attempt.

Definitely worth the rent. I liked it.

I went into this movie thinking "This is gonna suck," but it turned it was actually a pretty good movie. Definatly worth a look.

I really liked it. I adore Cage in these type of performances (The Rock, Con Air, 60 seconds) <- he really sells himself in this kind of cool, funny and dramatic hero-roles!

// + the story was involving + diane kruger was super hot :) + it's got Jerry Bruckheimer's climat + it's not boring (full time action adventure)

//Btw. This year I'm torn between Matthew McConaughey (sahara) and Nicolas Cage (national treasure)... I think the winner will be Indiana Jones 4 :)

I kept thinking I'd started the wrong movie when I saw the Disney logo up top. I see that opener a lot with three kids around.

It was a pleasant thing to see such a good script become such a well-executed film - all without the language and excessive violence that would usually accompany an action film like this.

Some of the CGI, especially during the heavily-comped treasure reveal seemed too soft to have made it to release. In my mind, a more liberal use of miniatures or traditional mattes might've sold that important scene better.

nic cage is one of my favorite actors, and he was perfect for this role. it was entertaining the whole way through, and the ending was awesome, where he drives off in his ferrari and his "half of one percent." this'll probably end up in the collection.

Wells' Thoughts

Wells' Thoughts

Saw this movie twice (hotel on-demand was pay once, watch all day) Pretty good flick.
Parts of it seemed a bit gimmicky or otherwise fak-ish or trying too hard to be a good movie.
It wasn't hard to follow but neither was it Olsen twins. Parts of it were even clever.
All things considered, I liked this movie.

I'd see it again when in a non-contemplative mood like I was in the hotel that day;
I merely wanted to be entertained and this movie met the call.

Typical Bruckheimer fare, which is not a bad thing. The story plays loose with history, the plot and characters are far from original and the ending was a foregone conclusion. But you could say much the same about a roller coaster. You know what's going to happen, but the good ones are still fun.

I especially liked the sidekick guy. Very dry. But for cryin out loud, isn't there anybody in this country who will give Sean Bean an acting job where he's a good guy?

Maybe he doesn't WANT to be a good guy. (And besides, he was a good guy in "Black Beauty.")

He was superb as 006.

The story does indeed play loose with history, but at least it's convincing. The 18th century 3-D glasses LOOK like something Benjamin Franklin would have invented.

I was definitely sucked into the film and the idea that our forefathers might have had these amazing clandestine subplots happening concurrent to the founding of our country.

Anything Freemason and relating to the revolutionaries is always of interest to me though!

I didn't see Black Beauty. I just think it's funny that he plays the hero in the Sharpe's series in the UK, but on this side of the pond he's been typecast on the other side of the coin. He does evil very well. But as soon as I saw him in that Snowcat, I just new he'd be up to no good.

Saw it on an airplane... I liked it and glad it was a decent movie... get my mind off the fact that I'm 30,000 feet in the air

I liked this movie too but it would have been better if it was rated R. Same with Pirates of the carribean.

LoL I hate planes

Oh man, don't get me started on flying. Used to be totally cool with it, and can hardly stand the thought now. I fly a lot for someone who is nearly a borderline phobic about it.

About ten years ago, a Southwest 737 I was in almost landed on top of a plane that'd taxied into our path at Ontario airport in SoCal. We must've been less than a 300 feet off the deck and the pilot just opened that thing up and pulled way back - it felt like he was trying for a maximum-g move. Anyway, people were crying and one woman actually screamed for the two minutes we were holding prior to our eventual landing.

The worst part was that the captain never came on to tell us what was up. We all figured the landing gear was gone or something. They didn't reveal the near-miss to us until we were at the gate.

During family get-togethers, my uncle, who flew for Pan-Am and then Delta after flying Sea Stallions in Vietnam, liked to share with me just how dangerous the take-off procedure was at John Wayne. He would colorfully explain, in great technical detail, how cranking the plane's jets nearly to their limit and "releasing the 'e-brake'" in order to have enough momentum to climb quickly over the noise-controlled Newport Beach neighborhood was eventually going to cause a major accident and the such. Fun stuff for a twelve-year old kid at Thanksgiving!

Also, hearing from a pilot how "loose" it was in the cockpit sometimes did little to boost my confidence.

After each flight I take, I offer a not-entirely-in-jest prayer of thanks for sparing my life. I'm not a religious man, but I have made several mid-turbulence deals with God. At this point, I'm in serious debt with the man.

Airplanes are my biggest phobia. I get so tense when i fly by the time the plane lands my muscles hurt. I just don't like the idea of having my life in someone elses hands. The "terrorists" don't scare its just the plane itself. I saw a show about this plane that like split in half and all these people flew out! If I was the one flying the plane I wouldnt be nervous.

Everything scares me more now that I am getting older. Planes, cars, cholesterol, pop rocks. I just know that someday, one of those little bastards is gonna get me.

I'm with the concensus. Went into not expecting much and came out surprised. A fun movie. Cage is always cool. Good harmless adventure.

That's what the drink cart is for. Vodka+anything makes for a great flight. Maybe it's the Czech in me.

Not old enough to "legally" drink. So I just have to make do with xanax.

This conversation could probably warrant it's own thread, but I have to disagree with this statement. I think it's pretty remarkable that a movie (and an action movie, Jerry Bruckheimer vehicle no less) can be made with a PG rating and be praised by the majority of audiences as a good movie. Sure Saving Private Ryan couldn't have been made as anything other than an R rated movie, but I don't see the argument that National Treasure or Pirates would have been improved with more violence, language, nudity, what have you.

Personally I would prefer less R rated movies, but I'll forever defend the right for people to make them.

Agreed.
