National Kidney Month

Yes, March is National Kidney Month. It's also about 2 years since my mother was released from the hospital, to go home and die, when there was nothing more the doctors could do for her. She had "CKD".

My mother suffered her whole life with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). It resulted in her going in and out of the hospital several times a year (I still feel more at home in Ochner Hospital in New Orleans than I do in my own den), going on dialysis, then getting a kidney transplant, strokes, many complications, then finally getting Ovarian Cancer, ultimately resulting in her death a couple of weeks before Katrina.

The National Kidney Foundation was her pet charity and a strong source of support for her. So I'm emailing a few of you, as my part to help raise public awareness.

Too few adults nor enough doctors realize that Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a common, life-threatening illness that often goes undetected until in very advanced stages. Please visit the NKF web site below. You can control high blood pressure, cholesterol, etc, but kidney disease undetected will simply kill you. It is literally a silent killer.

March is National Kidney Month, for a very good reason. And eat right, stay healthy, educate yourself. You only get one shot at life, make it count.
