Check out Nasa World Wind, where you can make videos of earth's surface at any resolution, speed and scale. This requires some easy scripting and taking the stills into an editor to make a movie.
Truly amazing! I am just now making some animations for a travel documentary to replace maps. I also have one hirez satellite image where I zoom in and tilt the surface plane (done with AE) and crossfade into a speeding truck...
What's best: Nasa imagery is in public domain, just need to thank them in the closing credits.
