nanoflash auto start?

hey there,

does the nanoflash automatically start recording when you hit the record button on the camera? or do you have to cue it up yourself by hitting a button on the nano? I cant seem to find an answer on the net.

thanks!

Have HPX in front of me, and recording on the Nanoflash requires you to push the rec button on the box, recording with the HPX doesn't record on the Nanoflash. So why should it work on AF100?

Best,
David

Go to the Convergent Design website and download the manual for the nanoFlash. There are a couple of ways to setup timecode based triggering. You can set it to do a pre-record buffer. Lot of stuff.

Suffice it to say, if you have timecode in the signal to the nanoFlash, once setup properly, you just turn it on and shoot. You can essentially ignore it unless you are doing long form shooting and then you will have to do card swapping which the present firmware now supports.

You can do the running-timecode thing, yes. But Convergent is also working on direct recording based on the flag that the Panasonic products set in the HD-SDI data stream. Panasonic has a protocol for triggering an external recorder; I used it with the AF100 and an HPG20. Convergent has said that Panasonic has shared the details with them and that they are working on putting that technology into the Nano.

It would have to be an entirely new design. The Nano is based on the encoding chips from the Sony PDW-700 and PDW-F800 cameras. Those chips are used in $28,000 and $39,000 cameras, and only do 8 bit encoding. The encoding is pro quality.
