Nancy Schreibers DVD (november)

Re: Nancy Schreibers DVD (november)

Hi:

The DVD is just okay, a friend of mine loaned it to me. Nothing against Nancy, she is a great DP, it's just that I didn't get very much that was helpful out of it in day to day to shooting.

The direction and writing was pretty average. I would definitely borrow it over buying it.

Best,

Dan

Don't be fooled by a badge. What I am saying is there are some great DPs out there, but they don't know how to explain what they do well or they don't hire a producer that understands the field so the products are sh*t. Teaching and doing are two different things. Even tougher is explaining it in away that folks get and a way that offers folks the same oppertunity. I'm coming out with a series of DVDs in May that will offer you more than you'd get anywhere else I've ever seen but I guess I'd have to say that.

Re: Nancy Schreibers DVD (november)

I purchased the "November" dvd and it was a complete waste of time.

The video offered nothing by way of knowledge relative to learning the camera or shooting ... or anything for that matter. It was very poorly organized. The person describing the scene files in the DVX100 did so with very little clarity. Frankly, I'm not sure what the objective of this video was.

Definitely not worth the purchase.

Re: Nancy Schreibers DVD (november)

That wasn't "november", that was the Birns & Sawyer guide. "November" is an independent feature film shot on the DVX that won the Best Cinematography award at Sundance.

The Birns & Sawyer DVD has been roundly criticized, and in fact it was the complaints about it that in part inspired The DVX Book/DVD. As for what the objective was, I am pretty sure that Birns & Sawyer intends that video for rental customers who are renting the DVX and who won't be taking the time to read the manual, so it's just a brief overview to get someone kick-started.

Barry,

My most humble apologies.

avr, Barry is absolutely right ... my intention was to comment on the Birns & Sawyer DVD and not on the independent feature.

But Barry's DVX Book/DVD, on the other hand, is a priceless jewel. Like most of his devout followers, before each reading and viewing, I wash my hands thoroughly, bow low and absorb each word of this Great Book/DVD with tremendous respect and admiration. It is truly an out-of-this world experience.

When you buy the DVX Book/DVD you will understand for yourself.
