Yo fellow dvxusers. I am trying to come up with a naming convention that can be used for small to medium scale projects. I know some have there pros and cons so I will say upfront the lowest priority is storage space. Okay on with the example. You are shooting a commercial for a exercise product like they sell on tv lets call it the DVXFLEX 
. Late at night. They then want you/your company to make there website design and graphic designs. I will start with a naming convention that was influenced by the Great Larry Jordan Final Cut Pro naming convention from Lynda.com. He used something similiar to this.
Client-DVX USER
Client-Project=DU01 - this is an abreviation of the clients name plus plus the job #. so if it is the second project with that client you put DU02.
Client-Project-tape number=DU01_01 - this is what you would name your tapes that have video on them.WORKS! I can search in osX and basically find all files associated with the project. You name all files like this psd,jpegs,movs.etc.
That works if you are only dealing with video but what if you are also making websites, brochures, 3d, compositing, etc.
well this is my take on it. add two more letter that identifies what type of project it is. so mine would go like this.
DU_V01_T01. This adds a project description to the naming convention. This says that it is Client Dvx User and it is video project 1's first tape.
Names are abreviated like this
V-video project
W-web project
G-graphic design project
A-animation or 3d project
S-sound
C-compositing or finishing project
Also these can be added at the end
T-tape number
D-delete item
B-backup item
P-priority
So some example are DU_G01_bizcard_B01_D.psd also you can make the abreviations more descriptive like
DvUs_Gra01_bizcard_Bk01_De.psd
optional if you want to put a name there you can. Obviously for small 1-3 man operations this might be overkill but it seems great for 3-10 man operations that require sharing files.
of course after I typed all of this I decided not to use it all and just move to a simple folder version. I will update this later. But basically it will work for everything but web design, but there are simplier ways.
