Name these Kino FLo Ballasts

Hi there,

Just bought 3 Kino Flo ballasts (with cables) at a film auction (was mainly after the two Matthews Briefcase Dollies that came with the deal), but thought they could compliment my kit. Want to know if anyone has any specs (or any information at all) on these ballasts and what kind of fixtures I can use with them and/or what kind of flow-through or connections to a dimmer.

The Ballast model numbers are: BAL-282-120

They must be older models, for they are not listed on Kino Flo's site. Shape and size wise - they seem to look like the Kino Flo Transflos.

Appreciate any help on this.
 
Can you post a picture? I have a feeling the 282 designation is indicating a 2 foot and/or 2 bank ballast.

They're definitely older style ballasts. This is before they came out with their select ballasts which allow you to switch each tube on independently. The ones you have probably (can't see the switch) have 2 levels of on (might be 2ft vs 4ft) and off. I'm not sure the compatibility of current heads to older ballasts. If the pin configuration of the cable is the same then it might work. It'd be worth asking your local Kinoflo dealer - which I see you're in Toronto like me! - so that would be Cinequip or The Source Shop.

Did you get these at a local auction? I always miss opportunities like this!

Yeah, I've emailed Kino Flo for info and will probably stop by the source shop when I get some time (when ever the hell that will be).

The auction was in New York, but got the stuff shipped up.

Good to see you're in Toronto as well. Often looking for additional shooters. I'll email you off board to set up contact.
